It’s Feel Good Friday over at Lifelounge and I’m especially excited about this weeks upper. They’ve collected 20 classic television show theme songs to lift your mood. There is everything from Growing Pains to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Check it out and feel good.
If you have the time (it runs about 50 minutes) I highly suggest you watch this documentary, Stanley Kubrick’s Boxes. I’ve seen a few of his films but never really thought of myself as a fan. After watching this about the thousands of boxes he kept that contained the research he did for his projects, I’m simply amazed (a bit envious as well). The amount of dedication that he gave to each project is astounding. He’d research everything from the hat the character would wear (A Clockwork Orange) to the perfect door for the hooker (Eyes Wide Shut), just to make sure that it was perfect and told the story he wanted to tell.
It’s a really interesting insight into his work habits and how he involved himself in his projects. Now I feel that, out of respect, I should (I mean need to) watch his films so that I can appreciate the amount of work he put into every shot he made. If I had a fraction of the sight he had, I’d consider myself lucky.
The quality of these videos is getting better and better. I love seeing new ones pop up in my feed. It’s like a cupcake sitting on your desk when you get to work in the morning.
Help Remedies is an awesome company that makes minor health help easy. They sell bandages, acetaminophen (headache medicine) and common sense. The packaging is simple (100% recyclable) and they don’t sell you extras (graphics, additives, coating, colors) you don’t need.
They’re not in stores, yet. Hopefully they will be soon because this is a product I can definitely use.
Be sure to also check out their awesome t-shirt. You can customize one of their “help I _______” t-shirts to say exactly what’s bothering you. Also, if you need some help for say…a hangover, check out their “Bored” section. There is also a helpful tool if you have some pent up aggression you want to get out.
Great animation of an interview a guy (who was 14 at the time) did with John Lennon in 1969. Even if you don’t agree with what he’s saying, the animation/illustration is worth the watch. The way the visuals match up to what he’s saying is pretty perfect. Peace should start with you, with your actions.
The video description pretty much covers it:
In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon’s every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon’s boundless wit, and timeless message.
Since 1976, 406 people have been executed in Texas. That’s 4 times the number of the next state below that (Virginia with 100). Dang. I’m generally in favor of the death penalty, but dang. Check out this link to read more details.
The site is extremely up-to-date, with the latest listing being July 1, 2008.
This made me laugh (on the inside). This video was apparently banned from television…for being too awesome (not really, but it’s still insanely cool). Over at Urban Prankster they posted about a recent Mission:Singapore mission to stage a finger gun fight in an underground bomb shelter (they have them everywhere evidently).
I found the Xbox video to be far funnier (of course, it’s staged), but the Mission:Singapore one is also quite interesting. It’d be cool to participate in something like this. No?
So this is pretty awesome. It’s bubble wrap with a calendar printed on it, and as the days pass you pop the bubbles. They call it a Bubble Calendar (how appropriate). I think it’s a really neat idea and would make an awesome graphic statement on a large wall. You can them either horizontal (my preference) or vertical, and either on white paper or clear plastic (again, my preference). Plus, they’re relatively cheap (starting at about $30).
Me being the do-it-myself type, would probably just get a roll of bubble wrap and write the dates on it and call it a day. Although this probably wouldn’t look quite as nice as theirs (they used Helvetica Neue, how fancy for them). So, by the end of the year I’ll either have forgotten all about this or will (hopefully) gotten one for the new year.
